The Doctor You Need Is In Your Food
Coconut Oil – Bone Loss and the Brain
The benefits of coconut oil are substantial. Not only does it taste awesome but it is excellent for; the brain, clearing head lice, the testosterone, reducing swollen prostate, bone health and more.
The Brain
Coconut oil contains MCT which stands for medium chain triglycerides. MCT is comprised of fatty acids. According to a study published in the Journal of Neurobiology of Aging, the brain functions on high ketone values that derive from fat. This fat is the only fuel source, beside glucose, that the brain needs for optimum functioning. In contrast, high sugar intake can lead to neurological problems (brain issues). This also includes Alzheimer’s disease. Consuming MCTs can improve the brain function of persons with mild forms of Alzheimer’s. Therefore, coconut oil’s MCT properties can improve adults with memory impairment.
Lice
Coconut oil has lauric acid. Lauric acid can help kill lice. If a person is allergic to or cannot handle strong lice removal treatments this oil can be a great alternative. To use coconut oil for head lice removal, use a shower cap. Thoroughly cover your hair with coconut oil that is slightly above room temperature. Leave the cap on your hair for 8 hours or more. This will suffocate the lice. Using a fine-tooth comb, look through your hair and comb out the dead lice. Use this method more than once and no more than four times if needed.
Testosterone
Coconut oil has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants prevent oxidative stress in testicles. This has been proven in tests with male rodents who have similar reproductive systems to humans. Most importantly, reducing oxidative stress in testicles preserves the testerone levels that might otherwise suffer oxidative damage.
Enlarged Prostate
According to a study in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacologya report shows that coconut oil, saw palmetto, lipid extracts and sunflower oil all contribute to the reduction of large prostrate in rodents. The reason for this is that coconut oil and saw palmetto contain a healthy dose of lauric and myristic acid. These properties are helpful in managing a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH otherwise called enlarged prostrate.
